Some pearls are chosen for their perfection, others for their character. Baroque South Sea pearls have both: the luster and nacre of a fine Australian pearl, and a shape that is never repeated.
They form inside the Pinctada maxima, the largest of the pearl oysters, in Australian waters. Over the years, the oyster coats the nucleus layer by layer in nacre, sometimes following its own pattern. That is how baroque pearls are formed: freeform pearls with ridges and ripples that catch the light differently in each one.
This necklace brings together 32 of them, ranging from 10.5 to 11.5 mm, with the largest pearls at the center. At 44 cm long, it gives pearls a modern feel and looks just as natural with an open-collar shirt or a sweater as it does with an evening dress.

What sets it apart
Exceptional luster. Luster is the clarity with which a pearl's surface reflects light, and to us, it is a pearl's most important quality. With a baroque pearl, the luster is amplified: every curve and ridge casts its own reflection, and the necklace seems to change as it moves.
Unique baroque shapes. A baroque pearl is neither round, oval, nor teardrop-shaped; it has a freeform shape. No two are alike, which is why every baroque necklace is one of a kind. The pearls in this necklace have generous volume and soft shapes, creating a harmonious whole.
Carefully matched. Matching means bringing together pearls that are similar in color, luster, and size, so the necklace reads as a single piece. In a baroque necklace, where each pearl has a different shape, balance in color and luster is what gives the whole piece unity.
White with silver overtones. These pearls are white, with a subtle silvery or silky gray cast. It is a tone typical of white South Sea pearls: cool and luminous.
Silk-knotted, with your choice of clasp: We hand-string the necklace, separating each pearl with a knot in silk thread. This keeps the pearls from rubbing against one another and, if the thread were to break, prevents them all from coming loose. You can choose a clasp in 18K yellow or white gold.

Miguel Carabel, founder of SY Perlas and a GIA graduate in pearls, personally selects every necklace. We buy directly from producers, and only 5% of harvested pearls meet our standards. Behind those standards are three generations devoted to pearls since the 1960s.

Unlike diamonds, there is no universal standard in the world of pearls. This allows many brands to use marketing terms like "AAAA" or "AAAAA" for pearls we wouldn’t even accept for sale.
At SY Perlas, we are third-generation pearl specialists. Our grading isn’t marketing; it’s a technical guarantee based on strict, hand selection:
- AA+ Quality (Our Superior Standard):
Far from a basic grade, this is our benchmark selection. It matches what other brands call "luxury grade" or AAAA. These pearls have magnificent luster and a very clean surface. An ideal choice thanks to an unbeatable price-to-quality ratio. - AAA Quality (Top 3%):
A visible step up in clarity. We select only the top 3% of each annual harvest. They have a more intense, deeper luster and an even cleaner surface, with imperfections practically imperceptible. Ideal for those seeking an extra level of excellence. - Signature Quality (The 1% - Extraordinary Pearls):
The extraordinary. Pearls with an almost perfect balance of luster, shape, and surface. They are incredibly hard to find and represent less than 1% of global production.
Preparation time
Certain designs, like some of our earrings and necklaces where you can choose the type of clasp, are strung by hand after the order is placed, so we need one business day to get it ready and ship it the following day. Don't hesitate to contact us if you're in a hurry.
However, the vast majority of products are ready so orders placed before 13:00 will be shipped the same day and the rest the next day.

Product care
A good rule for caring for pearls is that they should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you
take off.
It's also a good idea to wipe your pearls with a soft cloth after wearing them and, from time to time, you can dampen it with water for a more thorough cleaning. Avoid using abrasive soaps, as they can damage the luster of the pearls.
Always keep your pearls separate from other hard jewelry, such as metals and other gemstones, to prevent them from getting scratched.
